Incredible June Day Offshore Spencer Area
First and foremost I would like to say thank you very much to Tim, Bob and Craig for an amazing day on the water.
Its not to often you go off shore with a group of guys and just have a completely fun day with no yelling no bitching. This group just clicked and worked together all day. Right from loading the boat to catching tons of fish to cleaning and unloading it was perfect. I thank all of you for that.
Now Holly wow!
June 19th 2010.
What is going on?
Saw Canyon runners report in the big game forum the other day and noticed he said he thought they over ran the makos.
We looked at the water charts and thought that a small area inside the spencer looked like it might have a small spot of 68 69 degree water.
Tim Hand got us signed up for Jims Shark tournament in Cape May and we rolled out at 5 am on saturday morning.
Man It felt good to get a trip in on the blue rocket ship with the new mercury motors.
We hauled ass to the area we saw on the charts.
What came next really blew my mind.
WHALES, Dolphins and more birds then I have ever seen in my life offshore.
Now we watched our sounder and we looked around and just saw nothing that made any sense. A very small break in temp around .05
The whales that were moving through looked like tractor trailers off in the distance.
So we fired back up and moved about 3 mile father towards the Spencer. At this point we were about 13 miles inside the canyon. Dolphins and Birds every where.
Now we saw a little patch of bait jumping.
We quick grabbed the tld 20 and dropped the green zurkers in.
Slam slam slam slam slam slam zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Holly crap what is going on these little baits got balls.
Next thing we got color.
Wow bluefin, bluefin, bluefin , bluefin and more blue fin.
I quick grabbed the blue fin GOLD.
Yes that is right if there is one thing I will always say hands down, Kevin at offshore innovations has the bait to troll when sand eels are around. Dropped in a couple hatch bait bars and next thing you knew all the action went right to the hatch baits.
http://www.sportfishermen.com/shop/o...-sku25361.html

All blue fin were released size maybe 30 to 40 lbs.
Next thing as we trolled along we started dragging 10 to 12 lb bluefish in.
So after a hour of fun and tired arms we remembered we actually paid to be in a shark tournament.
The amount of life in this area actually had us confused. None of us wanted to shark in bluefish infested waters.
So we moved out to the edge. Dropped the shark rigs in and dropped down a tile fish line.
Bang Tile fish in the box.
Next Blue Shark,Blue Shark.
The drift was dead moving about a quarter mile each hour.
We had life all around us.
About 1 pm we decided to move back inshore and see if the chaos was still going on.
Yep bluefin, dolphin and whales way off in the distance.
So we set up on the edge of the activity.
Time went buy and we pull another blue shark to the boat.
Now weigh in was no later then 6pm.
I think we were about 79 miles from Cape May.
Sadly I knew something would happen and happen when actually making it in by 6pm would get real tricky.
Yep of course we said 3:45 would be the latest we could leave. The wind was coming up a little so we basically realized our day was over.
Then slammmmmmmmmm..
Oh damm the float is flying towards the bow of the boat.
Yep no blue shark here. Craig jumped on the rod.
About 5 minutes later the fish stopped a little and I mean a little.10 MINS 20 MINS 30 MINS My brain started to hurt. As of course I'm calculating speed, distance and fuel in my mind.
Saying oh shit I think we could make it at full speed but may end up a few miles short of the inlet with no fuel.
Oh man its always the way it goes.
Next thing I hear and actually with some relief was Tim yell Tiger Shark and its really got size to it.
Wow pressure was now off.
So now the joking around started.
We sadly never got to see this fish until the last few minutes of the fight. But man this was a smart Tiger.
Every time we thought we could get a look she would go for the props.
Next thing it did was get under the boat and press its head under the boat and would not come out.
We got the fish up to the side and cut the leader as close as possible and let the fish swim away sadly the leader gave it a nice cut but with a quick look it did not get anywhere near the jaw bone.
So we all looked at each other and smiled and laughed.
What a damn amazing June day offshore and man I hope this shows alot of promise for our offshore season.
Sportfishermen.com will be out a lot this year filming and having fun and hope to see you all out on the edge.

Another Hard day at the Office
Congrats to all of you. I am glad you guys got to get offshore and enjoy a day on the water. You guys deserve it aftern all the hard work and long hours you put in running the site and covering the past few tournaments.
I think Tim is a professional photographer. Those photo's are unbelieveable.
Best of Luck to all of you for the 2010 season, this is just the beginning
We had 1 small Mako yesterday around 80 lbs, my 8 year old caught it. He was pumped. We also had a 200 lb Blue Shark release. It was a beautiful day out there. We fished the India Arrow area, water was 70 degrees.

John on the 18th we had the same event happening around 45 fathoms inside of Poormans.Left after a massive Bluefish coverup. Those fish are scattered along alot of miles headed North. Thanks for the report and great pics.

Nice trip. Those lures look a lot like some old Fenwick lures I used back in the late 80s (they caught then, but everything seemed to catch then!).

Epic
What, can be said except: WOW
As John said it was a day to cherish. From the moment we got going to the end of the day it was a great day with a great crew.
Offshore fishing can be frustrating as we all know. But when decisions work out like they did on saturday it makes it really special. Information gathering starts days ahead of time. Monitoring sfc, weather reports, sat. shots, Dock/tackle shop chatter and past experiances all factor in to your decisions. It all came together in a truly memorable way.
Bob and Craig it was a pleasure fishing with you guys. We had a blast and it felt like we all have fished together for years.
John what can be said but Thank You. It was cool to see you in your other element. Smiles all around

If this was any indication: Stay tuned Sportfishermen.com, this is gonna be an exciting season
