Help out with a few details. How fast are you trolling?

I have never used anything larger than a 1/2oz weight if any at all. The lure head already weighs 2oz, so there shouldn't be a need for any weight.

    Hey Andy,

    Couple of questions too:

    1) What type of leader...mono, wire, cable and what size?

    2) What is your target species generally?

    3) What size tackle?

    4) What size...Bally (I'm presuming)?

    5) What is the 4 finger rule?

    6) You mention hair and skirt...please explain.

    7) By Ilander, you mean the regular 9" variety with the offset hole?

No worries, we help u man.

Replies in red the lure just skips / blows out the water a bit too much for my liking, approx how many seconds between surfacing for the ilander?

This one has me puzzled. Are you just running them a little close maybe? You can also try the Bluewater candy 3.5 oz heads and they may work for you better. I really don't know.

Here are those big heads on my site for reference. We use them here for Giant Bluefins.

I tied my own heads similar to the ones you are talking about and had no problems.

    Andy,

I where you instead of buying the full 9" Ilander I would buy the Ilander Jr. The Jr. is a bit smaller and you would not have to trim the hair. Yes the are a little bit lighter but when I run mine I don't have any problem with keeping them in the water, even off the out rigger or shotgun (with no additional weight). To keep them from skipping just run them farther back. Hope this helps.

    Great Topic,

It's got me thinking too. I use my Islander's on my outside rigger's, and Islander Jr's, sea witches, bart's on my inside rigger's. I'll generally use my smaller bait's as on the inside rigger's on my flat's aswell. I'll run an Islander,Green Machine sized bait on my center rigger. When I have different guy's on my boat they will tend to want to run my outside rigger bait's too far back for my taste. Without getting too scientific, will you guy's explain how you set up your spread's? I'm in the Hatteras/Oregon Inlet area. Tuna, dolphin, wahoo etc... you know the usual suspect's. Thank's, Frank,SeaPower
