Most keep repeating boats that are way out of his range. 36 Yellowfin...yeh nice but you might be able to get the hull used with no engines for $125K.

I'll only make 2 points. I own a 31 Cape Horn. Not going to get into the argument about ride etc because everyone has an opinion but I am very happy. My point is this...not a single warranty problem in 18 months of offshore fishing...NONE, 0, nada. I have never heard of another boat that can make that claim. This isn't a boat that sits on the trailer. 400 hrs of offshore fishing since December of 2008. A lot of the reasons for the lack of problems is that the boat has everything you need and nothing you don't. Very simple and very well built. Fantastic factory support...if you ever need it which is rare.

Second point, why buy used when you can get a brand new one for pretty close to $100K with a trailer, outriggers and ready to go(no electronics of course)? You can buy a new Cape Horn 31, put electronics on it and still be right at $125K and if you time it right, get Yamaha to kick in the YES warranty. Unbeatable deal in this style and size range.

Finally, you asked about engines. Yamaha F250's are a perfect engine for this size range. No, they won't do 70...and if that is what you want, get 350's but you will compromise your fishing(at least if you fish the way I do). The F250's get good fuel economy, are reliable and are just a good combination with a 30ish center console. Mine have not hiccuped at all.

There, you asked for a good riding boat, good engines and a budget of $125K and the 31CH fits all that. IMO, it is a good looking boat as a bonus. Good luck with your choice.

Thanks, we all have opinions and none of the other ones are really wrong. But, he had specific requirements and the 31CH fits them. The boat is not perfect, I would change a couple of things but I have found it to be a perfect fit for me.

In todays market you could easily get a used 32' regulator, 33' contender or 36' yellowfin ect.. for under 125k. A 34 inboard sea vee is also a nice option. I know you said you prefered inboards, but they great fuel economy. Cape horns have an excellent reputation. 31' Ocean Master is great boat but not in the same class as the other mentioned. You could pick one up w. 4-strokes for less than half of what you are looking to spend.

If I had a choice I would go w/ a large cc. For more fishing room and the ride.

The 31 Capehorn gets my nod. Nothing I hate more than boats with endless compartments stuffed with wet/rusty lures that never get used. The CH has everything you need, without all the BS....

    Its a serious offshore boat.

I like the 23t, which is 27', and paired with 250 yammies or etecs your a fuel efficient missle.

I'm moving up to the 23T or the 31 in about 5 or so years, based on the size of my downpayment

From my personal experience i have road on a southport 28 and a world cat 33 TE. i love the world cat because it can handle some of the bigger seas that we get in south jersey. Also it has twin 250's so the thing can haul if needed. The southport i have been out on has handled really well and can also handle a nasty sea. But i have heard such great things about sea vees i don't know which way to lead you. but if you want to go for a cat boat, world cat is second to none. For example we were in the South Jersey Shark tournament two years ago and were lined up at the mile buoy with about a hundred other boats. Soon as we got the go sign we pinned it and beat out everyone besides two boats. which were a sea vee with trip 250's and a regulator. both which are very fast boats.
