EDF - EXCEPTIONALLY DECEPTIVE FISHING
Catch shares are being pushed by the very same people who introduced cap and trade for carbon emissions...this is simply cap and trade for our fisheries. Envrionmental Defense Fund is an extreme anti-fishing corporation that has hijacked our fisheries management process - NOAA chief Jane Lubchenco was an EDF leader before she took over the reins at NOAA. We are too inefficient for the number of fish we bring to the dock...way too much gas burned leaving way too large of a carbon footprint. Catch shares help solve that by removing the boats off of the water.
It is also privatization of our fisheries at the expense of the many for the benefit of the few. These fish belong to every American and should not be gifted to a select few captains. Once people are gifted the access to our fish, many times they simply sit back and lease it out - charging people for what we should be getting for free.
Congress mandated NOAA Fisheries to improve the data collection FIRST (to be in place more than 2 years ago yet it is STILL not in place) BEFORE they change our AMs or ACLs. NOAA Fisheries/EDF are trying to change fisheries laws without having the required data to do so. THIS IS CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS IN MY VIEW.
Catch shares funding got voted down last week by the House of Representatives, and the Senate is poised to vote on this issue on Wednesday. If you REALLY want to affect the future of our fishing, contact your senators Monday and Tuesday to tell them to vote for the Jones Amendment HR-1 which would prohibit any funding for any catch shares or "limited access privilege programs".
IT'S EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU CONTACT YOUR SENATORS NOW TO TELL THEM TO SAY HELL NO! TO CATCH SHARES.

Catch Shares are not about conservation. They are about MONEY and CONTROL.

Wake up sheeple!
"If a window was broken or a drain was blocked up, someone was certain to say that Snowball had come in the night and done it, and when the key of the store-shed was lost, the whole farm was convinced that Snowball had thrown it down the well. Curiously enough, they went on believing this even after the mislaid key was found under a sack of meal."
