I Hit the Wall

Thats right my twenty two year run at mako mania being somewhere on the board came to a grinding halt. I shit the bed, crapped the pillow, hit the wall, crashed and burned, sucked, barked at the moon, and choked...
Like SJ Shark I was on my game enough to find the pig. Unlike the one down there this one should have been had but instead she screwed me with no lube or love. She pissed right on my cornflakes and I have to take full responsibility for not having her on the scale.
Somebody must have barfed up my numbers . I seldom have any boats within eye shot on this one spot but damn if there wasn't a dozen or more looking more like a bluefish fleet than a sharkin fleet sittin on it... I'm the Deep and thats my spot so screw em... I'm goin in for the kill. I lay up, naill the number and the twelve pound bait I have long gets drilled!
"Ok Mr. Angler, theres zilla! Feed her... Feed her... Wait.... Ok ... NOW!!!! put it to her!!! Reel tight and jack her jaw off 13/0 steel ain't gonna plant it self. He bows up at full drag and she's about to light the afterburner, Back to strike, she starts to go.. Then the ballon pops up and the line goes kinda slack.
I see the balloon closer than it was. Instead of reacting and lighting off the boat and turning the proper way I hesitated... A rookie mistake... Sure enough she was charging at full tilt!!! I could see 400lbs of missile fly past the bow. 22lbs on the bent but eighty being yanked backward wouldn't let my angler even get the rod out of the gunwale... She soundel like a top fuel dragster rubbing the wrong way on the guides and hull. Beforee I could get to the helm I heard that rifle crack sound of 80 sufix letting go...

That would prove to be our only big bite of the two days. We had a rat, a blue, and some bluefish but zip, zilch, nada of interest despite some home run bullseye drifts over some of the finest turf out there. Never fail spots finally let me down... I let myself down... Oh well...

The good thing about it is there is always next year. Hey if it was easy would real men bother to do it? After losing our monster thresher in the Oc deal I know exactly how you feel. Just makes me hungrier to get back at it!

Hello Deep - it was nice to meet you (albeit very briefly) at the Captains meeting for MM. After reading so many of your posts it was nice to meet you in person. I would have liked to attend your sharking seminar but with my friend's passing thta was not a possibility.

Sorry to hear you didn't have great success but hey that's what keeps you coming back, right? It was frustrating for us too not catching a qualifying fish when so many were caught this year.
