headed out of sandy hook at 4am monday morning. sun cam up and the ocean was oil slick calm. i havent seen it that way in a long time. headed for the tip and stopped 5 miles shy. started trolling around 8am. 9 lines in the water looking pretty. made my way up the east side of the tip to the east elbow the across to the west elbow out to 1000 fathoms and back to the east elbow without a single touch. saw plenty of dolphins and trolled around and thru them with nothing. decided to stop and tile fish for a bit. i hit my spot and started pulling 15-20 pounders right off the bat so i put down a squid on a single hook. the rod was a stubby 6 footer with a penn 15kg loaded with 80# pp. i forgot to mention the other two rods we use are eletrics. next ting i know im in 7oo feet of water with the rod in the holder and me grabbing a soda when i hear my pop yell "fish on buddy!" i turn around to see my 6 foot rod almost touching the water. i pick it up and the fight is on. lets recap. 700 feet of water 2 pounds of lead a single hook and me. so about 25 minutes later i slap a 44 pound golden on the deck and say "thats it, someone elses turn next time" that is my biggest tile followed by my 42 on the last trip out. great day, great water no tuners but hey if it was easy everyone would do it. i have a pic of the tile but can post pics. if someone wants to help me i can give them the pic for the post.
