Arrived at the tip at 8:00 am, 73 degree gray-blue water. Lines in, first bite at 8:10. 20 pound yellowfin ate a horse ballyhoo on a purple illand pro![]()
Next fish hit the rainbow squid bar as soon as I pushed up the throttles, this time a 40 pounder. Lookin to be a good day, right? Not so fast
Troll around the tip, through the notch and make our way to the east elbow. Not much change in water temps. Next bite didnt come until about 10 on a green annihilator, but he spit the hook. 1/2 hour later 2 huge splashes and we are hooked up on the 80 wide and he's taking line. Ate a B/W islander, nice fish. But we busted the mainline 10 minutes in![]()
New line, drags set. Whats up with that?
Trolled out toward 100 square and into the deep. Nice water change at the mouth, temps up to 77, but loaded with weeds. Talked to a couple boats that ventured out into the sod farm with nothing to show, so we turned back towards the elbow.
Back at the east wall, the yellowfin are all over the surface, but we couldn't get a bite. We threw the kitchen sink at them - skirted ballyhoo, naked, bars, jets, bullets, planers, spread in tight, spread way out - nothing. Even tried a little jigging. Oh well, at least the fish are there
Decide to head to a tile spot for the last hour. Trolling over, 2 longfin pass up the whole spread and key in on a couple small stalker jets on the flat. More meat in box
Fished for tile for about an hour, 4 in the box including a 42 pounder.
Seas laid right out for a smooth ride home
