How and when you make changes to your spread...
I'm curious if you guys have any thoughts about how and when you change your spread when you're not getting bit.
Me and the boy fish is a small 11ft tinny with up to 3 lines (2 flatlines and a planer/diving board) and a teaser. My spread usually consists of lures I've caught fish on before, mainly targeting wahoo. I have skirts (purple pakula uzi and Black Uzi, williamson blue/pink wahoo catcher plus jets and chrome heads w/skirts in every colour under the sun) and hardbodies (2m and 7m halco divers in Red-Head, Fire-tiger and blue mackeral) and rattle traps (2 halco max in blue maleral and YFT and Halco Fluro Yellow and blue).
I've tried lots of lures (rigged gar fish/ballyhoo...no sure if rigging was good
, drone spoons, rattle traps, skirts and divers) off the planer too without much success so far.
Does anyone have any favourite deeper lures for off a planer/downrigger?
Also does anyone have any tips for wahoo High speed trolling? So far we have got a few rainbow runner (on pink poor boy and purple/black hexhead) and a sailfish (on silver skirted chrome head) High speed trolling but no wahoo. No trolling weights used so far.
On Nauru we usually troll closer to the reef for wahoo (anywhere within 100m of it) and occasionally go out with feeding noddies if they are within 1km of shore and have caught wahoo out there too.
All the wahoo i've caught thus far have had nothing in their guts, so matching the hatch is all guess work at this stage.
Any thoughts, hints or tips would be appreciated.
