How old were you?

How old were you when you went on your first offshore trip? What did you catch/target?

I think I was either 8 or 9 when I did my first shark trip. We only had a few blue sharks but that was enough to get me hooked. I was thinking about it because my kids are still way too young to go offshore. One is 4 and the other is only 3 months old. Can't wait to get them out there.

I'm guessing 5 or 6. Seemed like it took for ever to get out there and I guess it did. Left at night and started fishing just before light. Kings and Sails are what I remember but the kings could have been Wahoo...

8 or 9 for me - we caught big sharks - a 6 1/2 ft hammerhead and a 11' bull

hudson canyon sept 14 th when I was 13, filled the boat with longfin. old man made me run the boat all the way home 5-1/2 hrs
electronics consisted of a compass and paper recorder. when we got close to shore would zero in with a radio direction finder.
those were the days.

I think my 1st offshore trip was 5 6 years old I think...I watched my brothers fish all day as I beyond sea sick on my 1st trip so I chummed and slept but from what I remember I wanted to enjoy the day!

I think i was about 10 but we just went and fished for dolphin

10. On a stick boat. Watched my neighbor stick a BFT that ended up dressing 790lbs. Any wonder why I'm hooked?!

caught a small sandshark when I was 3. caught first sailfish when I was 5. First east coast canyon trip I was 9

I was 11 or 12 Fishtails Canyon- 13-Yellowfin 40-80lbs., 4-Albacore, 200lbs. Big-eye, 150lbs. Mako and a few Mahi. Yup you could say I got the bug! When I was younger than that- I straightened out a hook and whipped it to a wooden dowel then tied some mono to a balloon, and would stick snapper blues, scup, whatever and chase around in my row boat, I guess I was destined to make harpoons, I was always fascinated by harpoon boats, sword boats, the old whaling days, Nantucket sleigh rides etc., kind of corny but a true story

I grew up in central mississippi and am the only real fisherman in my immediate family. I got the bug at grandmas house on the reservoir in jackson catching goggle eyes through the slats of the deck to use as catfish bait on my 4' inflatable rowboat with enough water in it to keep the eyes alive(goggle eyes=rockbass).
