My wife asked me a question tonight I do not know the answer to....so instead of google I came to you guys.
How old (in years) is a 1,000lb Marlin or a 300lb tuna or a 100lb wahoo?
Thanks in advance for rescuing me....

a little brief researc on nat geo says the average lifespan is up to 27 years, I'd imagine a grander marlin would be somewhere towards the end of its lifespan, so probably 22 years old anyways.......im no expert though,
interesting question for sure
A marine fisheries guy I met at the cleaning station at Teaches Lair (10 years ago) said that my 198# bluefin was around 18 Months old!
A marine biologist buddy of mine said that the oldest Dolphin they've dated, which was well North of 50# was just over 5 years old. Apparently, they live fast and die young.
Has anyone else heard numbers close to these, or am I way off?
for BFT the research conducted has been mostly in the Mediterranean but it indicates that bluefin between 75-85 inches would be in the range of 8-12 years old...a 150lb fish would definitely be older than 18 months...probably somewhere around 5...
A few years back when in Morehead they were doing some rescherch on the bluefin and I was told that a Giant Blue fin in the 400 lb range was 13-15 years old. That whole thing of passing the ball was great to watch.
I fish more than I work, and i'm proud of it!!![]()
thanks for straightening me out on that one...those numbers make more sense!
I believe the 1228 blue marlin was about 28 yrs old.
don't be scared of reverse
