How important is tomorrow?
This is not a debate on abortion, single-sex marriage, or any of the other issues that effectively sidetrack the really important issues from coming to the fore. This is a debate on what is it that makes up the American psyche? How can we do that? Well, at the ballot box on Election Day of course and that is tomorrow. A basic problem facing us is the members of the various elected bodies that control our lives. Yes, the Presidency, certainly the Congress and Senate, but those problems do not give us an opportunity to vote our views for another year, at minimum, but the State and Local elected officials we get to deal with tomorrow. November 3, 2009 is special. We get to start on a mission and then carry that mission forward into the next election periods. Here in New Jersey we elect a Governor (shudder) tomorrow, a year after the Presidential Election. We apparently also get to elect a Lieutenant Governor (Yet another high salary plus benefits position for a less than a ceremonial post). But the potential catch gets better. We get to elect a large proportion of the State Senate plus each of the two Assemblymen from each Assembly District tomorrow. Back in 1776, the Founding Fathers thought that the various levels of elected government would be filled with citizen legislators who would serve a term or two and then return to their regular professions. What do we have today? We have a “professional” politician class that expects to stay in office forever. Further, the U.S. has developed a political base of 42% of the adult U.S. population, verified by the Internal Revenue Service, that pays NO federal income tax. The politicians yap about “helping the poor people who pay too much in tax” are flat out liars. Poor people don’t pay income taxes. But when there is a constituency that large, 42% of the total population, the politicians who pander directly to that constituency with promises of a variety of “plans” that cost billions, no scratch that, it’s now TRILLIONS, will get those votes since that constituency knows they won’t have to pay a dime for the promises. But we, our children, our grandchildren (I do admit I need a son-in-law here somewhere), and our great-grandchildren, who HAD NO VOTE IN THIS MATTER, get to pay it back. Fishermen and Fisherwomen, do we really want to change America from the land of opportunity to the land of paying pay stupendous bond balances off for generations? I, for one, have decided that the only way to stop this raping of America is to vote ALL OF THE INCUMBENTS OUT starting with this election. Is there a cost to that position? Yes, some good people will get tossed out with the bad. But can you honestly say for sure that you knew how your favorite official thought when out of the public eye? However, it will take the newly elected official a year or two to get their feet on the ground and then, voila, they face another election. My method gives them two terms tops, any office. Then home they go. After a couple of cycles, people who run for office will start to get the idea. Either represent your electorate or get out of the race. How many will sign on to this voter promise? VOTE THE INCUMBENTS OUT! Every single one. For me, November 3 each year has special meaning. It was my Mom’s birthday. Tomorrow she would have been 101. She did live to 93. I think this is a promise that my Mom would have been in 100% approval. Perhaps we can report our votes on Sportfisherman.com tomorrow. |

Capt Lindsay I couldn't agree more. It is time to take our country back, starting today. Let our voices be heard thru the ballot box and stop this madness of handouts, bail outs and B.S.

I hope so!
I only hope a strong message is sent to Washington DC tomorrow, and even stronger next November! Frankly, what I see going on today from our House and Senate scares the chit out of me.

Looks like the republicans did pretty well. I guess the democrats couldnt get the welfare lines to come out and vote again. I didnt hear a single "Obama gon make my car note" or "best be voting fo Obama" coming out of the ballot lines this go around.
In Virginia, we were flooded with ad spots on the television with Obama endorsing Creigh Deeds, the democratic candidate. Obama did some fundraisers for Deeds and was pushing pretty hard for him. I think Deeds got beat nearly 70% to 30% by the republican candidate, Bob Mcdonnell. Even if it doesnt mean anything else, hopefully the republicans dominating the state elections will show those assholes in Washington that we do believe in change, and their asses are next. |

They got the seniors out to vote, but all of the college kids were sick with sine flu and couldnt vote. Now I guess they will say that the swine flu is a republican conspiracy!!!!!
Get rid of all of um! Heres a question for the group: Why would anyone spend 12 million dollars of their own money to get a job that only pays $200,000 a year? HMMMMMM...... The math just doesn't add up in my mind... |
