Obviously this answer depends on a few things like boat, seas, and others, but generally I think the answer will be somewhere between 35 &45 Kts is where we start to cross that line. I like to fish alot more than run, and ther have been days so nice I wished i had another 20+ kts of go power but i could also see a danger in tossing a member of the crew over during a hard turn to avoid that log, turtle, container (god for bid). So for most days I'd say (and run) 30 something.

Conditions permitting, 34-36mph going out and coming in, but Ill usually let 'er rip with about 5 miles to go, 55mph just feels sooo good, and I like to hear those Black Maxes scream blowing a 5ft roostertail coming through the inlet. It also depends heavily on the skill of the captain, traffic, tide, gas prices, wind, etc. I feel comfortable running flat out, but I would not let many other people run her hard.

I bet running home the whole way at 38-40 knots in a 58 RH will burn some serious fuel and make the engine rebuild man happy with the frequent rebuilds. The 58 RH w/C-18's that my friend runs does 29 knots at 1900 and close to 60 gph, so I'm guessing 38-40 knots is pretty close to WOT and close to 100 gph.

Its very rare to be able to run over 35-45 on a cc both out and in anyway... i will take the 50 footer that goes 25 over the cc that goes 70 anyday...

let me tell ya' dude, running a boat,ANY boat in a big sea,at a high speed, you're gonna have screws coming loose, stuff pulling out-stuff you would never think of too.i've seen rod holders-gunnel mounted rod holder pull out, from the force of running fast with rods in the holders.seen t-tops pull out-bottom line, don't believe what you hear, everything has it's limit...

But it was more of A Joke for Contender Mary who in another post was comparing contenders to wellcrafts! Just an inside joke I guess!

i love when people say my boat 30 kts in 8 ft. seas. well most people do not know what 8 ft seas look like especially if the are waves and have some sort of crest and are less than 7 seconds apart. i make a living salvaging vessels and the mighty sea can tear apart anything man makes from 60ft sportfisherman to 24 ft cc. plus you lose so much time fix all the stuff you break and burn a hell of a lot of fuel.

i have caught just as many fish running 18-20kts as the guys going 30 +kts. the bottom line in the north atlantic is most days you can only run about 20 kts when it gets rough!!

My boat is pretty fast. But I never run it fast in the dark... that is just foolish. I hear guys saying they "got to the canyon before sun up" because they cruised 45 kts.
