How essential are teasers in your spread?

Just wondering guys what your take is on running teasers in your spread. How have they worked for you and what is the one you swear by the most. the only one i have really ran before is the stripteaser. It looks awesome in the water but not sure if its really worth running it. Ive heard good things about both the witchdoctor and the fender teasers. Do you use one over the other for say tuna or marlin?
    Thanks

Fin, Is it easier to make them or to buy them. I do have some artistic ability and would like to paint them myself. I remember awhile back when someone was explaining how to rig and run them.

    TOAD

The "fender" / "TOAD" teaser is what I use and it is (IMO) well worth the effort. Fact is, I've always got one running behind my boat. Building is simple and inexpensive. There are many informative discussions as well as fotos in the archives of SportFisherman relating to the "toad". Shoefish posted a video last June ( I think ) that was fun to watch. REEL, you may want to use the search engine on this site and find lots of good info and fotos. Key word "toad".
How do you know it's not there if you can't see it?

Just use caution regarding the type of paint you are using, if it doesn't bond to the rubber you might as well use strawberry jelly.

As far as teasers go. Offshore fishing I would not be caught without them. 20 fathoms or shallower most times do not use them.

As far as an all purpose tuna marlin teaser, you can't go wrong with a squid chain and islander chaser. Everywhere I have been, atlantic and pacific, when using teasers, these produce.

Thanks for the info guys what do you guys think of the stripteaser? Have any of you had good luck with this teaser. The six arm dredge it came with was hard to keep it under water. I tried flat lining it to get i lower to the water but i think i need downriggers to get it deeper. I ended up later switching them to a spreader bar and running them on top as i saw that in the window of Alltackles new place in OC so i figured id give it a shot.
    Thanks for the info guys
Now I can try to make a a fender teaser over the winter break

The problem with the stripteaser is that sometimes the fish gets his head so far up in it you have a hard time switching it off.

Last summer during the DU tourney, a big momma blue came up and took the stripteaser. Damn near took the outrigger and dredge rod with it, too. Thank god the 250# swivel broke, or it coulda gotten ugly.

    Yes, they work.

Altho i never had the a problem with the fish getting stuck in it, i have pulled them and i love em.

Very little tangles, super light, and they look awesome.

whent 2 for 3 on blues while pulling it, one of the blue's ate a dink 5 feet behind the dredge. Not to mention had a ass load of dolphin trying to eat the strips

The toad is a pretty interesting teaser. I experimented one day earlier this year just to see what I could see....
    Sunday Toad experiment

Then I took it for a test ride. If you haven't seen one run, it's worth it to watch it work. Crank it up!
