Galazio and the rest of the crew - As far as the drag increasing to put Green Machines awesome scientific description into laymans terms, think of a socket wrench as a lever and the lever being the distance from the center of the spool to where the line comes off.

Old rusty bolt hard to turn with just the wrench right, short distance. What do we do? Put a pipe on the wrench, longer distance, old rusty bolt breaks free because we multiplied the force. Make sense??? So the shorter the lever, less line on the spool, more force needed to overcome the drag.
