I did that before I had a bunch of boston mackerl in a cooler with baking soda, salt water, ice and "The JUCE" aka formaldahyde. I stuck my hand in the cooler to get out a mackeral and holy mackeral I thought my hand was on fire. I knew where every little cut on my hand was thats for sure. Since then I get my brother to hand them to me out of the cooler. He doesnt seem to notice.

How do you get a very cold cooler without using ice?

For the Bionic Brine question yet my knuckles get stiff and sore .. makes rigging them miserable.

As for brining them I let them defrost in icy sea water with baking soda in it for a couple hours.Eyes get popped and the get depooped wiggle them a little so they swim well. They go belly up in a home made stainless baittray that hangs on the lips of the cooler belly up and they get a nice sprinkle of salt and soda on the bellies.I Usually rig a dozen and then I rig more on the way out or once we get the spread in Ill sit and rig and let someone else watch the spread for a couple minutes.

Switch to kosher salt and you will not have that problem.
