    How DEEP is DEEEEEEEEEEP ???

I was at bar in OC last weekend and the man down from me was talking about going out overnight way offshore to were the longliners are working. He said a friend of his works on a boat and is doing very well on the tuna. It sounded to me like he was talking out his ass but I don't know much about how far off the liners are fishing. Does anyone know how far out that is??

At these gas prices that would be a lot of coin to drop to make a run to no break or area that looks right on a sst and have no fish, When I can do the same thing on the 20 line.

Don't know where the longliner's are right now. I have seen them in 30 fathoms and I have seen them in 500 fathoms.

Just like sportfishermen, they are fishing temp breaks. They are supposed to fish far offshore, but I have seen them in as close as 50 fathoms in the 400's between hatteras and OI.

I was pumpimg some for NC swordfish info a few months ago and all I got was south of cape lookout and deep. There shallow lines are 250ft and go deeper from there, but I think the 500 line is a good starting place, you go where life takes you from there.
