    Hot Wahoo Bite

With my boat in the shop for a few maintenance items and an invite from a friend to fish offshore, we came up with a gameplan and set it into motion Saturday morning. Dropped the boat in the water at five and was headed out Beaufort inlet by 5:30 to a stiff breeze. Weather man missed it a bit, but it appeared to be shower related so we continued pushing offshore headed to the rise to set lines. Stopped just shy of the rise to set out baits, had just finished setting the last rod when the 50 wide on the WWB starts screaming, wahoo bite obviously. I start clearing lines while Chip settles in for the battle and Jack takes the wheel. Chip is getting concerned with the amount of line left when it comes unbuttoned..We reset the lines make a pass at the MOB mark with no more takers other than a couple king bites so we continue to push offshore. Reach the Swansboro hole when the planer rod bounces, clear the other rods and boat the first wahoo of the day, a nice high twenty to thirties fish. Reset and five minutes later another planer bite with the first fish twin. We continue to pound the mark for the next couple hours to complete our six fish limit of wahoo including one that we guessed in the fifty pound range. Lost one other big fish in the afteroon as well. Also had one nice group of gaffer dolphin crash the spread, six rods go down and it's on. After a some short battles four gaffer boated and the planer rod had a small wahoo on, lost one gaffer on the wwb during the fiasco...Great day of fishing with great friends

rick(baywolf), & myself went back to the same area tuesday, caught a double on the hoos, then the grass moved in. we had a few other shots, but between tackle failure & bite-offs, we just didn't stand a chance. also ended with 5 bailers, fishing was slow, but still great to be out!
