    Hoo Dat!

Left OC at 5:30 headed for the Rockpile looking for whitey. Stopped short at the 30 fathom line and put a couple baits out on a large weed patch. Picked one quick mahi and back on our way. Passed a beautiful rip and weed line at 35 fathoms but decided to continue on our plan to join the fleet at the RP. When we arrived, there were a few fish being caught, but slow overall. Some of the "big boys" were picking up and running south. We decided to head back to the rip we passed coming out.

We picked up some small gaffers on a huge weed patch, then decided to bail a few. Quit after about a dozen decent size dolphin and back on the troll. I decided to put out one wire bait with a blue and black witch/select hoo on the shotgun back. Had a nice wahoo that didn't read the instructions hit the left long with mono. Had him stripping line off a 50 for about 30 second before leaving with my islander. A little later his brother hit the correct bait. Richard made quick work of him. We had to cut the Hoo's head off to get him in the fish box, so not sure of the weight, but Richard is 6 ft. tall and the fish was almost that long. We guessed about 65lbs.

Never saw a white? Heard there were some YFTs caught between the Hotdog and Sausages. Was nice to ride home from 45 miles out versus 65 as has been most of this seaeson. Sounded like the best marlin bite was down in the Norfolk.

Good stuff. The dark colors always seem to work well on both overcast and sunny days. The shot gun bait and deep baits closer to the transom are the best places for them. If you are going to be spending a lot of time from 20-40 fathoms this time of year especially around weedlines don't be affraid to pull an entire spread of wire leaders. We've caught YFT, Dolphins, and Whites with the wire this time of year.
