Carpe Diem- Seize the Day
Honoring Texas Tower 4 Vets on this day
It is memorial Day and a time to remember the Veterans of the USA. It is of particular local significance to honor the men who died aboard the Texas Tower 4, part of the ocean early warning defense system out by the Hudson Canyon. This radome structure was destroyed in January 1961 during a horrible Noreaster and 28 men lost their lives going down during the collapse in the bone numbing Atlantic waters.
The newly deployed NDBC weather buoy has been co-named 44066-Texas Tower 4 in their perpetual honor.
The following video, made duing the June 2009 deployment, is a tribute to these men and their fellow seamen who served
in the Atlantic watching for enemy planes and ships during the Cold War.
When you are out fishing near this buoy try to take a couple of seconds to recall their service, and catch a big one in their honor!
They all had a blast fishing 180 feet high off the Tower while on duty. They would smile down on us knowing we are remembering them and their pleasure while out at sea.

PS-This buoy has failed during the past March's storms. If anyone can get a digital image of the buoy to determine the
physical condition, please email to me and I will forward to the NDBC which should help in expediting the servicing
of the buoy back to operational mode.
