    Honeymoon fishing destination

I have got permission to fish at least half day on my honeymoon(That was tough to achieve). My fiancee' wants to go to a Sandals resort. They have locations in Jamaica, Nassau(Bahamas), St. Lucia, and Antigua. We would be there from 4/20/2008 - 4/26/2008. Which of the locations would be the best for bill fishing that time of the year? The only places I have fished is off VA & NC and I know nothing about these areas. Thanks in advance. Jason

I just got back from Antigua on Tuesday, and in talking to the captain of the boat that I chartered, the best time for bills is the summer months. You can apparently get them any time, but the most predictable time (especially for a half day) would be then. He did say that the spring time is usually wide open for dolphin (if that is of any interest to you).

I went to Negril Jamaica two years ago, and was not impressed with the fishing options that they had there- ended up fishing with a local in a glass bottom boat with saplings as outriggers

I was in Nassau a couple of years ago, and that is a pretty commercialized area. The charter boats that I found down there were more of a "take a tourist for a ride" type deal.

I've never been to St Lucia, so I'm not sure about that other than it looks absolutely beautiful there.

I have some pictures/video of Antigua that I'm editing up, so keep a lookout as I'll be putting that up in the next few days.

    Hope that helps some.

Out of the places you are looking at I would avoid Jamaica. Especially as a honeymoon trip. Very low proverty level, so if you leave the resort there is no telling what you could encounter. I cruised the Eastern and Western Caribbean and Jamaica is by far the worst place we stopped, and is definitely the only place that I would not return. Sorry I can't help on the fishing never fished there.

    Hope this helps

I spent my honeymoon at a Sandals Jamaica.
I also chartered a boat that was arranged through the resort.
They came right to the resort and picked us up.
    Let me tell you,
    IT SUCKED.
The boat was a POS, but I've fished from junk before, so that didn't bother me. But my gawd, she shook like a dog sh!tting tacks!
I started talking to the capt/mate about a plan of action. Typical deck talk, & I didn't get much for answers. The capt didn't speak at all.
They basically took us for a 4 hour boatride.
Luckily, there was plenty of Red Stripe on board.
We even trolled a 150 yds or so from some floating grass(after aimlessly dragging baits for hours), I asked,"Aren't we going to make a sweep around that?"
The Capt & mate converse for a brief moment, then, "Capt say no ting roun dat."
    WTF?

    Total waste of money.
Of course, when we return to the dock, everyone was asking how we did.
Don't think that after about a gallon of Red Stripes I didn't speak my mind.

Oh, and I'll agree w/ rockfisher, it was pretty ghetto.
I much prefer the Lesser Antilles. St. Kitts is great. Don't know about the fishing, but I've been that way a few times, and I love it.
Don't care if I never go back to Jamaica.

Hey Rockfisher, you know Buddy Schuh?
He's out of St. Jeromes Creek in Dameron.

Thanks for the replies guys. Everyone I have talked to says Jamaica sucks. It also seems the fishing there sucks too and I don't smoke pot, so it's definitely out.

I had a great time in St. Lucia

    HATED JAMAICA! I believe we stayed at the Sandals Grand on St Lucia. Actually have had 3 other couples go and they loved it also. If you go take the Helicopter ride from the airport it's a much better ride than the van service. One or two of the airlines might now fly direct to an airport closer to the resort. I fished with Capt Mike's on a 35" Bertram, hooked & lost to a broken leader a big Blue Marlin, also had 5 Wahoo, and 2 Mahi on a half day trip. The boat and gear were decent and the Capt & mate were great. They were pissed that we lost the marlin and blamed me until all the line was reeled back in and there was nothing there. We fished what seemed like a 20-30 min ride out and ended up within view of the resort. Here's a link;
