    Honest ? for everyone

ok, so im sittin home with a friggin flu logging on every half hour looking for more info, then a ? came to me.

my ? is who makes final decision on where the hunt takes place. is it a general concencus or does capt bly just slam his hook in the riggin table and lay the law.

another case 6 people chop the entry fee,all spend the same $ amount, should magority rule

do you take your {paid} EXPERIENCED MATES thoughts into affect. talking about bringging in a professional mate who you trust with all the rigging, i mean lets face it you take care of the boat but your mate sweats as soon as the line comes tight.

so how about some thoughts, and this is directed at absolutly NOBODY I MEAN NOBODY...

We usually discuss it the day before based on knowledge(rumours) that we heard. ON the fishing day we chunk that info and go where the Captain says.

IT HAS TO BE A GROUP DECISION NO MATTER WHAT...
we get the week before of sst charts and study them from all different angles.

we then pre fish and see where we do the best and work all different areas and gather info.

put it all together and you will find out where to start!!

Take the experienced mates thoughts and then make a decision as a group based on that. No one person should make that call due to the fact that everyone has paid their way to ride & fish. Get good advice from someone (the mate) who should know and get to gettin'.

We are a team, our core group has been fishing together for better than 20 years....i guess you could chalk it up to great minds think alike. We look at the sst charts, talk with a few of our local buddies and form a plan....and a backup plan and go for it...As far as taking a paid , experianced mates point of view on the location, set up and tactics....absolutly, If you think highly enough of him to bring him on board you should Value his opinion on what he has to say.

The captains word is law but with that said mates talk to other mates and if you have been in the game for a while you have a network of friends who you share info with because as the mate the more you catch the more you make should'nt be that way BUT.

Funny you say that...Seems most of the best tips come on the worst days catchwise. I know several other mates who have said the same thing. I think it has a lot to do with the interaction with the customers, maybe they just think your gonna get fired?

Didn't mean to get off topic.
In regards to taking your experienced mates into consideration...how could you not? Only a foolish Captain wouldn't hear an experienced mates thoughts...provided they are presented in a professional and tactful manner.

    Hope you kick the FLU.

I think the mates opinion should be factored into any decision. Alot can be learned by being on the docks and most mates have a pretty good network of buddies they can contact. I worked on a meat boat and a buddy worked on a sporty that only trolled and fished tourneys. we never fished tourneys so I had no problem feedin what we was seein.

Next point, the capt usually has the final say, especially if he's a hired gun. They should be open to discussion but final say is Ahab's. Thanks

All I can say is AMEN to the sweating/bad thoughts when the line comes tight! Is it bad to admit such a thing? You would think after 25 years in the pit that would not be a concern.

Wow, what a question, and the best answer that I can give is who is on the boat fishing and who is the captain. I have had guys charter the boat to fish a tournament that I would not trust to make a decision as to what we should eat, much less as where to fish. O the other hand I have had some great fishermen on the boat that could read SST and Clro. charts better than me and the input was put in by all.
We had a (hired) mate who's input we trusted only to figure out that he either did care or realy was being feed some bay info.
It all boils down to the crew that you are fishing with as to who has the decision as to where you should fish...
