    Home Made tuna plug!

Anyone ever make there own cedar plugs? Cabin fever driving me crazy and I am thinking to much! Ive got a lathe, plenty of cedar, airbrush, and a lead pot. Cant seem to find any prefab lead heads or molds. Any one have a clue were to buy some?
Like to make a few plug Daisy chains and such. Ever seen an acrylic clear "cedar" plug with a little flash foil inside, or maybe a hole for a glow stick! Sorry thinking to much! Fever is getting worse!

Yes, there some Clear plugs out there - I think Black Bart has one (San Sal Candy maybe) - and I have a couple that I don't know who made - with Abalone inserts.

I haven't seen that kind of lead mold from the usual sources - ieo-IT.

You can make a lead mold pretty easily yourself - http://www.hiltsmolds.com/PerfectReplicaMold.htm

I gonna turn a few clear ones and docter them up. Dont know if iam gonna polish them clear or leave some frosted. Then I would like to see your prototypes!(dont want to influence my "vision" till after there built) Still need to figure out a head mold, guess I will make my own. What did you use El Capo?

Anyone ever use a large willow blade with a swivel attached to hook as a kicker? It might limit the classic action of the plug but sure would add some flash. How about a hook attached to stiff cable that can flex like an assist rig so tuna or mahi cant throw the hook as easy as a solid plug?

So one "easy" way to go about making a lure with a weighted head, is to take a standard egg sinker and bore out the hole to accept a plastic coffee stirrer. Take a piece of 1 inch or 3/4 pvc pipe about 6 inches long. Split it lengthwise, and tape it back together with electrical tape - this is your mold.

Put the lead, coffee stirrer and insert in your mold and cast your resin. Once cured, pop out of the mold and turn on your lathe and polish. You can decorate your lead any way you want...

I have a piece of 3/4" aluminum mounted in my Lathe to make a AL cedar plug.

The taper is f'ing me up though.

You can knock together a taper jig for your lathe pretty easily... http://www.gadgetbuilder.com/Taper.html

Did u need any type of release paint or paste on that pvc and brass molds? Seems like I have to coat my prototypes with some sort of agent. TIP: cheap automotive wax works with some resins, just apply- let dry- do not buff off (leave dusty white wax layer) and resin will pop out!

OBVIOUSLY NOT FOR LEAD! "legal disclaimer" LOL
