Hey guys figured i would post a couple pics from our trip this weekend down to hole in the wall. I joined a while ago but havent really been active on it...thats sure gonna change now that i see how much good stuff is on here.
Anyway so i flew into marsh harbour fri morning to meet dad and a couple other friends who brought the boat over on thurs...weather was perfect so we made the call to head down to hole in the wall and spend the night. I cleared northbar and told dad to take over i had some rigging to do...5 minutes later out in 9000 feet he throttles back and yells down he just saw a big fish on the surface and when he got close it lit up blue and took off...we all saw the swirl and it looked big so we said what the heck and put out two lures just for kicks. not 5 minutes later a big blue exploded on the 1656 and totally caught us off guard, no camera no belt nothing ready...10 minutes into the trip and we're hooked up -much rather be lucky than good any day. after a nice arial display she went deep on us and we were down to 50 feet of dacron with the knot clearly showing but thank god she stopped. a little over and hour later she was boatside and posed for a couple nice shots before she swam off with plenty of color..what a start to what would end up being a perfect weekend. nothing else on the troll till we got to the point when it came alive...busting footballs everywhere and more mahi than we knew what to do with...all the tunas were small and hard to keep them away from the sharks but that was if we were even able to get the baits past the mahi...i would say we easily hooked over 30 mahi that afternoon..couldnt even get the baits into the riggers before they got hit so after hours of constant rigging baits we had enough and ran over the other side in hopes of seeing some bigger tunas.. with nothing doing on the other side we set up for the night around the corner a bit and caught a nice mixed bag of snappers, horse eyed jacks, strawberry and red groupers consistantly throughout the night. first light found us back in the football chaos and had shots at a couple whites but couldnt connect. same story as the day before mahi everywhere surrounding the schools of footballs. we ran back to marsh for an awesome fish cookout under the tent behind the boat and quickly passed out still stinking of fish and blisters all over my hands. on sunday i had a flight to catch so even though it was glass calm we decided not to head offshore. we decided to take a run out to the reef and jumped in the water for an hour and speared 3 nice hoggies which quickly became the best fish sandwiches ive ever had. jumped on an afternoon flight and back home sunday night...a lot of traveling but definitely well worth it...hope you enjoy i will be back down weekend of may 19th so hopefully have some more good pics maybe even a video.
Almost Spooled with the drag past strike
