im not sure what the term sculpin is.but these fish are not reef fish, they are on sandy bottoms.they are caught what aussies call a snapper rig.that is 2 hooks with the sinker on the bottom and cutting a pilchard in half and putting each half on the hooks.you can only catch them on the drift.not anchored.they were caught off the famous bondi beach in 30 to 40 m deep.its great to talk to someone on the other side of the world all the best.

Really cool looking fish! Nice to see something unique. Is the blue coloration from the camera or are they really that color? Is the leather Jacket a species of Trigger fish? Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Guys,

Sculpin is not a flathead (different family) but looks kinda similar

A leatherjacket is a type of triggerfish.

The blue hue of the fish is not what the fish look like in real life.

The flathead is usually a mottled brown colour with electric blue spots and a white belly

The Leatherjackets are all sorts of colours with this species being white/ light brown.

    Both good eating fish.
