    Help needed

Im new to this website and i am curouis about a couple things. Ive grown up and fished in Oahu my entire life, (hawaiian islands for those who dont know) we troll lures mainly for small to medium blues (dont see the same big boys as in Kona) large ahi and mahi's. But sadly due to the recent economic trouble i may see myself out of work soon. Charters have become so hard to come by that ive started to work for 3 different companies, on several different boats.

Basically is there any place i could go that is actually seeing some SEROUIS business that would suite my skill set (preferably an area were you can drink the water). I have already made up my mind about leaving hawaii, but i have yet to find a suitable destination.

Sorry to hear about the charter business slow down in Hawaii man. I think you can safely assume that if it's bad in Hawaii it will be the same in any place where the industry relies primarily on US dollars.
That is definitely the case here on the mid Atlantic Coast of the US with tournament participation down 20 - 50 % and charters down 50+%
    Good luck to you.

lots of charter boats throughout the Florida Keys chain, dont know how well they would suit your skill set though. not much in the way of blue marlin, but plenty of billfish and lots of mahi., as well as big blackfin tuna. its a different fishery for sure, but seeing as its sort of attached to the mainland you'd see more dock traffic

    Cool deck jobs

Deckie Johnnie- you are doing the right things by putting your name out there. Work is always out there for those that truly have the skills. It is a matter of how much is out there to be had.

Some choose free lancing by choice, others by necessity.

On the east coast, some guys work private boats who concentrate on Tourney fishing. This time of year, tons of Sailfish tourneys are going off up and down the coast of Fla. Beginning in the spring the tourneys move up the Coast ending up in NC, MD, Del, NJ etc in August then back down the coast again. The tourney circuit jobs probably has some "who you know" requirements

Jimmie is right about lots of charter boats in Fla. Once again this can be both good and bad. Lots of boats means more competition for Charter customers. Once again, the quality boats have a "following" yet this site is the place to get "market" condition reports for sure!

Jimmie- how was your TG? Are you going to be in Islamorada during Christmas?

While I was in Islamorada over TG, there was a lot of concern from all sectors of the economy.(Including Blue water and back country operations) From real estate to restaurants. Restaurants are crying the blues, which is not a good sign in a tourist economy?

Good Luck- I would be careful leaving your situation without a good lead. Good luck to you.
