Heard the Carolina draggers did it again any truth to the rumor??
Heard from a buddy that the draggers off the Carolinas made another mess, with thousands of discarded stripers as bad if not worse than what is happening in Maryland and hardly a word is said . WTF!!!

Thanks Gottafly
Good link, seems very interesting as to how protective of the draggers the DNR, down that ways seems. I also found a photo taken by someone that overflew the draggers with a helicopter and there are far more than 241 fish in the photo. I am all for commercial fishing but dragging seems far to indiscriminate to allow it to continue, Time to look at a rod and reel fishery and get back to fishing instead of killing for nothing.

"Life is what you make it!"
From what I recall reading breifly is that this has been going on for years and decades and it never came to public eye until recently because the commercial boats are mixed up with the rec boats doing this there for witnesses and cameras and video cameras

Seem's That the Popular,
Concensus for a hook and line fishery won't work either. It's my understanding that you can't legally sell hook caught rock either. I don't know what the answer is myself, but this sure is a fouled up situation. Just like with the gillnetting thing going on in MD, alot will suffer for the action's of a few. I don't know of any mean's of harvest that doesn't hurt more than just it's intended target's, rec fishing included. I would be very suprised (right or wrong) if this will be allowed in the future. Guess it'll boil down to politic's, like usual. Frank

Why?
That seems crazy that you can not seel hook caught fish, In Mass as wel las a couple other states farther north the commercial season is rod and reel only. I am sure some high grading goes on but its not hundreds or thousands at a time. Hook and line is a very directed fishery with little bycatch not sure where the powers to be have their heads down there more likely their pockets.

Relentless,
If you figure out any Governmental (Stae or Fed) reasononing, please write a book! Most problem's I see stem straight from them in the first place. Frank

In Va, Hook and lineing is allowed but with a tagging system similar to little numbered zip ties. It is a small amount of people that have the tags and the hook and line lic though
