Just in from paradise:

"Went fishing with a buddy on his boat on 4-21. Headed out of Maunalua to the Bank since we had heard word of some fish down by the Corner. Water was perfect for trolling, but didn’t see a single bird pile all day. Down at the Corner saw lots of bait on the finder so could see why many fish had been caught down there in the previous days…but not this day. Lots of other boats, including some big charter-size boats were working the area but no joy for us or any others as far as we could see at the Corner.

Good thing for us the trip down and the trip back up were productive! We had half a dozen blind strikes on the way down and boated two mahi and two ono, with the other two hits not sticking. On the way back up, we had four more hits in the blind and boated another ono, one more mahi and a kawakawa with the other hit slamming the rigger down but no go. We ended up 7 out of 10 for a real nice day. Here’s our table full of fish:

My buddy has a few Archer Superbars and half our strikes came on lures run behind them, including our biggest ono. Here’s an ono caught behind a Meatball:

And here’s a mahi caught behind a Pro MeatBall:

Most of the rest of the hits came on a Gary Yamamoto lure run behind a Kaneohe Flyer bird.

Fresh ono and mahimahi – it’s all good!"
