Hatteras YFT 3/20 & 3/21

A couple of my buddies were dying to get on some tuna. With my boat still sitting in the yard, I called my friend Jeffrey in Hatteras and he offered to put us on. So I agreed to play cockpit monkey and off we went.

Saturday we decided to fish for bluefin offshore of the tower. Alot of fish were caught there Friday but after four hours, we only had one yellofin in the box. The bite had moved way up the beach so after lunch we decided to make the move almost 20 miles. Our first bluefin bite was on the 450 in 3500 feet of water so I stuck him even though he was a 40 lb. schoolie. It was getting late and we were 55 miles from port.

Sunday was a different story. We only had a few hours to fish since we had a nine hour drive home so there was no way we were going to run 55 miles to get on the bluefin. Gameplan... beat the YFT around the 280 and it didn't take long. In four hours we had 10 in the boat and could have had 14. Yellofin were hitting everything and skying on the teasers. We had five on early and boated three. Another triple, a double and a two singles by 11:30. 300 lbs of fish in the boat.

He won the under 40 foot boat division of the Big Rock last year. He will take you fishing..... not catching. If you know how to fish you can work the cockpit on his boat and get some expert tips.

That's Jeffrey Quidleys boat... the "Island Girl". It's a custom, made in Hatteras years ago. It was the builders personal 32 express he made for himself. Its a frigging plow. It's got a 450 CAT in the belly. It averages about 45 gallons/trip out of Hatteras so it's pretty fuel effecient and it will fish any day the big boys fish it just may be a wet day. I've fished it in true 7-8's and fought fish with the AP on and it could have handled alot more than I could.

I'm pretty sure that was the original name but there is another guy building boats under that name now in Hatteras.

I'm going to suggest something that may stir controversy,but I hope you understand...While I, and most fisherman with any common sense realize the process of fishing and keeping some for the table..Some need bled ,some are injured swallowing baits ,The Gaff, etc. etc..IMO .I wouldn't post The bloodiest pics you can find..PETA and groups of that nature will use these against us..They will portray us as blood thirsty killers who torture "Sea Kittens" or whatever BS name they can come up with that week..We know the real story.. But Jill Q. Public doesn't. Sadly ,Today we have to watch our backs..Image goes a long way..I just wouldn't give them any ammo if it were me..JMO -
