Yesterday, we put together a make up trip because we had a nice weather window and it didnt look like we were gonna get to fish this weekends charters on account of the weather. The bluefin bite has been to the north around the point and this was the story yesterday as well. We got there to find acres of bluefins and boats hooked up everywhere. We hooked a bunch, missed a bunch, broke some off, and caught some. These big fish are real tough on tackle. Our largest fish of the day turned out to be the fish we would kill as our giant for the year. This 320# 86" beast took a little over an hour to land on 80# gear. We also killed our under for the day. The wind kicked up and got a little snotty for the ride home, but overall fishing was great.
Fishing down there is as good as it can be right now. If you have never caught one of these things, you need to get a charter trip in the outer banks out of Oregon Inlet or Hatteras because this fishing doesnt come around every day and it truly must be seen to be believed. Its hard to describe on the internet how awesome it is to experience these big tunas. These bluefins might stick around for a little longer but yellowfins and mahi are right around the corner.
We still have hatteras charter dates available at $1200. Also, any days when I am not booked (usually during the week) and we have a weather window to fish, I will be putting together make up trips.
