    Hatteras Sailfish Question

The times that I have fished Hatteras for Bills have been east of the Rock Pile down to the 000's and have never seen a Sail. Im looking at spending a couple of days in Hatteras around the Full moon next month. My question is do the sails hang out in the deeper water or do you see them inshore more? I would like to spend a day targeting them because they are the last bill fish I have yet caught on my boat, o and a Spearfish to but one act of god at a time. Any info would be helpfull. Thanks

I would chase the bait and water instead of a specific location--- that being said, the 180 up to about the 230 line in 25 to 40 fathoms ussual holds a few in August. A few will also cruise shallower moving towards the shoals to 90 ft or so if the water is clear. The 900 to 950 line is usually a good bet to the Southern in 35 -50 fathoms--- if nothing else, there should be a wahoo or 2 to provide you dinner.

In Hatteras I have always had the best luck for Sails on the first colorchange. And close to the tower and the shoals. Good Luck! Catch one for me!

    The deep

lately all of the bills have been in the deep.

    100 fathoms give or take.

Sails hang out in the 20 fathom range up around the tower all summer.
