Hatteras Offshore - January 4th Report

Happy New Year.

We started out the New Year with a bang with Phil and Theresa Kelley joined us today for some awesome action on the Big Blackfin tunas on the vertical jigs.

We ended up keeping 17 fat blackfins 7 of which were citation, we released several false albecores.

A couple of donkeys rounded out the fish box.

Phil's citations: 2 @ 22lbs and 1 @ 27lbs

Theresa's citations: 1 @ 20 lbs and 2 @ 26 lbs

Heck they even let Jeremy catch a citation Blackfin that weighed out @ 26 lbs.

I, however failed miserably on my citation blackfin attempt, but I did break a jiggin rod on a fat albert!

I tell ya folks, this is some awesome hands on jigging action, you will be worn out at the end of the day if not sooner, just ask Phil and Theresa.

And if you have never eaten blackfin, it is every bit as good as yellowfin.

Running home we detoured to the shoals to look for Rockfish, we did not find any but were greeted by a rainbow over the lighthouse.

These fat blackfins were around all last winter and should hang out this winter too, so let me know and we will take you jiggin!

yeah guess i graduted. need to get down there and see everybody. might try to get down and shoot some ducks with Rom for the season ends.
