The next bite on a jig.

    Hatteras Mako's

I have gotten 3 separate reports trickling out of there. It always does this time of year up around the 300's. I can't believe more people don't go after them.

#8 planer with a hook bolted to it and another hook behind it on a cable trailer.....the Super Lure.

I know i have heard stories of the cobalt shredders chomping on planers but this is interesting.

It's about that time for a mako bite down there. They sure do kill alot of rats though. I've seen some pics form the charter fleet that where darn right shameful. Sorry to be negative but I call'em like I see'em.

See what I mean. It's no wonder we see less big fish north of the Carolinas.

I saw an 11 footer come completely out of the water three weeks ago just south of the VA line, about 35 miles out. It was @30 inches thick. It was so big I thought it was a great white. It was 130 yards from the boat.

I don't know about that Dman. There very few makos caught in the Carolinas, especially in comparison with the mid atlantic states. The mako is such a rare catch for us, that even a small one is considered a special treat for the table. Nothing wrong with the taking and making good use of legal fish.

I have to agree, We ran from Md to OI last monday to fish tuesday. It was a beautiful day on the water, found great break way down south , but the tuna bite feel off the day before. So we trolled all day to almost go home empty, until the downrigger took off, red/black islander, 60" mako. Meat in the boat, unexspected but appreciated.

Not like the one we see off OC, First trip of the year mako saved the day.
