Big squid are natural prey for Mako's. Add the movement and the live vibrations of a distressed eel and it turns them on like crazy. I doubt they care about the eel other than it makes the squid look and feel like its distressed and trying to escape. Try it and you won't believe how fast they can turn on. I always pick up 3 or 4 when shark fishing and keep them in the livewell. Hook up a big squid on the hooked shark rig ready to go. Mr. mako shows up but he won't eat your baits. Maybe they are'nt fresh enough or maybe he just can't find them in all that chum. Grab your rigged squid and hook that eel through the eyes. Toss it as far as you can and rip it close but not too close to Mr. Mako. He'll turn on it and "Game On". I keep a heavy and a light outfit ready to match to the size of the shark. I just whant to add one last thing to the drama I started here. I really need to aplogize for taking my fight to someone else's post. I fellow shark fishermen started a good post and I turned it into a mess. I'm not saying I don't still stand behind what I said but I hate for anyone to think I'm gonna bash or ruin a good shark post.

Well said Dman. We all have our own opinions, and we are all passionate about them, but not hijacking someone else's thread and stealing their thunder is important. You obviously care very much about sharks. Maybe it makes sense to start a new thread about those issues but without condemning whole areas of the country. I think you'll be surprised with the results.

No that doesn't look like it's 54" and i agree with you, let's string the ******* up that took it. I'm all for enforcing the catch limits. I was just saying that there should be no taboo on taking a fish at or over the limit.
