I took the 6 minutes to download and the 20 minutes to watch this. Its Incredible! Every member here should see this and the problem with Govt.
I agree with the preservation of animals, hell I couldnt shoot or hunt anything anymore. I dont want to, plus I dont eat it but, I recognize the need for a balance. And they arent hunting these birds or harming them.
I am having a hard time posting the link to the US Senator from North Carolina, please someone do it. I am going to send Mr Burr an E-mail. I also would like to send in a donation that goes to helping this get changed. Please post that address also sportsman.
A well done documentary that everyone should see on here. Now, instead of marching on Washington, perhaps fisherman should drive a Caravan south to Hatteras and drive them all on the beach.

I agree, this is one of the best pieces I have seen about the effects of the beach closures on the businesses on Hatteras Island. The sad part is, most people donating to these organizations do not really know of their hidden agendas.

Summer ended yesterday and I nearly cried. I hate the last day of summer vacation. Now, I need a better excuse to just leave for the shore than I have been using all summer.
Anyway, I called the Senator's office. I was in that kind of fighting mood. To my surprise, I was transfered to a legislative assistant of his, [Kyle] that was very nice and well informed on the subject. This is what he told me. Senator Burr is opposed to this closure, However they do not have the votes in the senate to bring it to a vote because of the "democrats" that are in favor of this. Kaye Hagen, [a democrat] the other Senator from NC is willing to just let it sit in committee without a vote. I explained to him what I had read in SFC and I believe he was aware of the forum. So, politics will have to play this out I imagine. Now since this is the first time I have heard of this perhaps I am not alone.
Earlier this year, I was not willing to go to Washington to fight for "the commercial guy" and his right to fish. I dont believe in million dollar fishing tournaments either but, thats my problem. When the prize is a million dollars I sure dont think you can convince a Govt body that you have a right to continue with what you do while you continue to blame the commercial guy for every single problem. BUT, this is a matter of millions of dollars all taken away from hard working people one dollar at a time. It just aint right.
I have never been to Hatteras but, I would bet that the impact the fisherman have surf fishing cant even be measured in terms of harm to the environment, only in terms of harm to the local people and economy.
Kyle, the man I spoke with did not feel that this would be on the agenda table any time soon, unless something drastic changed. I hope to see more about this, not only here but in other fishing venues. I always thought surf fishing in Hatteras was an American tradition.

I am also a conservationist. I want to preserve for future generations, but the Audubon is out of its F@#$#%%^& mind. I just bought a house in Frisco and have friends that live there year around. I know someone that was hired by the park service to trap animals that are natural predators to the birds. He trapped hundreds of raccoon, oppossum, red fox and the not so natural ferral cat. These birds have been coexisting with the people on the island and they will continue to coexist without Audobon or Govt. intervention. If they can't survive natural predators they weren't meant to be there. The Audubon doesn't care about the island or the economy or the people they are all about a dozen birds. As with everything else the Feds don't care either. They can't generate enough votes for re-election so they don't bother with it.

I'm with the girl at the end of the video, it's almost unbelievable that this is happening in this country. That being said I would like to, no I need to, hear the other side of the story.

I've been helping fight this battle for at least 12 years (financial support, letter writing, etc)... glad to see it get some press here. Screwed up country we live when stuff like this can happen.

Why is this such a surprise?

Congress says it will put a BASEBALL PLAYER in jail for 30 years for not telling them the truth. They on the other hand lie to ALL of US everyday and what do they get for it?????

This bureaucracy is way out of control.
