Hatteras East West Tournament Results

[Captain Jay Kavanagh]

Every year, the Hatteras Fleet gets together for a season long tournament.

We choose up teams and it is scored, Two points for a Blue Marlin, one point for a White, one point for a sail.

Anyone is welcome to play and we have a good mix of charter boats, and resident private boats.

So if you have heard us on the radio callin out "give me a scratch" or give me a couple of scratches" that is what that is all about.

Eric Holmes on the Boss Lady was one team captain and John Canning aka Jersey on the Reliance was the other team captain.

We have a big party, give out some prizes, captain and mate of the year (voted on by the fleet) etc. and give an award to the top billfish boat.

Captain of the Year - Jerry Powell - Three Sisters
Mate of the Year - Barry Peele, Jr. - Boss Lady
Top Billfish Boat - Sea Creature - Steve Coulter Captain, Travis Cook Mate

The rest of the top five billfish boats:

2nd - Bite Me
3rd - Marlin Mania
4th - Release
5th - (three way tie) Boss Lady, Tuna Duck, Islander

A big time was had by all.

Sounds pretty cool. congratulations on 2nd. What were the actual catch numbers?

yep, first place looser, 2nd year in a row.

We actually caught the most total fish, but most of ours were whites and sails.

Creature caught several blue marlin and they are worth two points, it was close, but we ended up second.

Creature can catch blue ones, I watched him catch 4 blue ones in one day this year. We caught our share of blue ones, but not enough.

I don't know of the actual totals, I will get them from marina and post em.

Good going on another great year Jay as always you guys from Hatteras never cease to amaze me folks these are some of the best in the world right here smack dab in the middle of the NC coast. Oh yeah Jay is right about Creature Steve i believe he could catch a blue on in a bath tub he's damn good Jay ain't to shabby either.
