I caught a fish once :)
Hatteras bottom/troll trip-unbelievable
Went fishing in Hatteras on Friday and Saturday of this week with Tim Barefoot of Barefoot Rods and Tackle and had a fantastic trip. The first day we went grouper fishing south of Hatteras. We fished his squid jigs with a natural squid on the first hook and a stinger. We ended up catching a whole plethora of species: a 27 lb warsaw grouper, 5 or so nice scamps, a limit of snowy grouper, a couple gags, a speckled hind, 20 or so aj’s that were all nice ones (three were of citation length), a few pink snappers, b-liners, a tilefish, and two eels.
The second day we decided to troll and we did quite well there as well. While in the process of letting lines out, we missed a sail that ate one of Tim's balleyhoo rigs. Made in either "J" or circle fixtures, they swim great and are incredibly simple to rig. Including an affixed chin weight, these rigs require little prep work on the balleyhoos. Snap the bill off, wiggle the tail a couple times, stick the hook up the soft spot on the beak of the balleyhoo, loosely wrap wire from the eyes around the hook multiple times, and deploy. We ended up raising two sails on the rigs, catching one, and having another switch off of one of Tim's rigs and piling onto a sea witch. We ended up with two sails, a wahoo, and 15 dolphin. What a trip.
Please check into Tim's bottom and trolling rigs. We had a great time with them and caught fish.
Here are some of the pictures, but more will follow.
