Has anyone had any issues w/ GBFT brokers in MHC?

We have had an issue with a particular broker screwing us over a couple times this season in MHC and we are just wondering what we can do? I was kinda looking for some other input form others to see if this was just a fluke occurence or whether it is happening more than just to my boat? I have heard a whole lot of rumors but does anyone else have any input? I dotn have a ton of time right now, but I will update this and tell whats going on later...

Yeah, I have used pretty much all of them now. This year, we sold three fish to Donald Diehl with True World over at portside. He fucked us on two at the end of december. We had two fish on the market when no one was catching ANY. I believe there was only around 15 sent to Japan from North Carolina for the week between christmas and new years. We had a 440# that he lied about and putting on the auction. He ended up chopping the fish into pieces and selling it domestically. We ended up getting a shade over $9 a pound for. Another broker told us he heard a rumor that the fish was not sent and we had specifically requested it be sent to Japan instead of sold domestically. We asked for a return sheet for the fish and he could not provide one. Two days later, we caught a #417, that should have been on the first market of the new year. He held the fish there for several days when he should have sent it and it "did not make it to the market on time"... after it sat in the tank for a week. Before it even left Portside, he told us he wanted to sell it domestically. We did not want it sold domestically. We specifically said we wanted it put on market in Japan because tradionally the first market of the new year fetches high prices and the fish we had was perfect- nice shape (93'' and 417#- a porker, beautiful fat content, good color, etc). After a couple days of sitting of the fish sitting in the tank, I rolled by portside and saw my fish was still sitting on ice. We asked why he hadnt sent it yet, he said the fish had yaki. We made him do a core sample on site and he could not show us yaki. He said and I quote "the yaki must have gotten better" WTF...We ended up getting just a shade over $10 a pound for that fish. He said the fish was sent to market and performed poorly. We later found out that fish was never sent to market and was most likely sold domestically. After all was said and done, we specifically wanted returns for those fish from the auction house and he could provide none. We have asked again now that the season is over and he still can provide none.
Matt has sold fish to them for some time now and he didnt think they would lie to him. He talked to Donald and somehow after a month Donald smoothed everything over with him and somehow convinced him to sell him one more fish and he would make everything right. Well on the tuesday before the season closed, Matt caught a 242# fish, which he sold to Donald. It was a small fish, but with the market doing well most people got in the upper $20 range for fish no matter what the quality. Well low and behold, once again, our return is for a shade over $10 a pound.... Matt asked Donald what the deal was, and Donald replied that the fish had a disease. Matt went home and looked up what the disease was on the internet and the disease that Donald says the fish had is something that has never been recorded in a tuna fish and has only been found so far in sea bass caught off the pacific coast of south america. Donald says he was gonna provide paperwork from the health department in Japan, which now a week later he wont return phone calls. Donald says that the fish initially fetched $30 a pound on the auction, however when they cut it open, it has white spots in the meat, and therefore he only got $10 a pound for it. Its pretty obvious that we got screwed but my question is what can we do about it, other than drag him through the mud on the internet and make sure he doesnt screw someone else....
Also I wanted to note that for January we sold several of our fish to other brokers and did not have a single fish that was below average for the time period and in most cases our fish were well above the going rate at the time WITH OTHER BROKERS.
What can I do here... I got my check really screwed on three fish and it hurt me pretty good financially. I feel like I was robbed, and to the tune of $1500-3000, just on my end of the deal as a mate. I'm pretty pissed off, but feel like my hands are pretty tied on it.

Stories like that are why I have stuck with Jason (Kashiko) over at Homer Smiths.

Did I read correctly upper $20's per pound? In three years the highest I have heard anyone getting was 21 or 22 (at least that I could confirm, not the old I know a guy who knows a guy story)

Sorry to hear you got screwed, 9 or 10 on fish like that seems light.

Thats right Franky. There at the end of the month the price got really up on them. In fact I dont think I heard of a fish that drew under twenty that was caught there in the last two weeks of the season. I know of several people that caught doubles there at the end of the season and had both fish well into the $20's also. The promise of good money like that was the only thing that really made it worthwhile there at the end when there were 50 or so boats fishing and two or three keepers a day being caught.
I have fished down there on and off. Some years I just dont go down there but some I do. Up until this year, I think the lowest I had ever gotten out of a fish was $12. This year one dealer has three in a row that yielded that us my three lowest fish ever while every other broker in town was selling fish at least in the teens?

    Jake,

I delt with True World in Alaska selling fish, same storie told one thing payed another. I sold to Jason and was pleased with the pay and the turn around with the funds. The last one I sold cored at 530# I got $15.99 for it. I sold a 86" domesticly and got $ 10.99 Jason always provided me with all the paper work for what was sold and for how much. I also watched the auction online so I kind of had an idea of what was going on. As far as I m concerned Jason is a stand up guy an I was very pleased with doing business with him. I don't know what you could do at this point, all of us that fish down here should definiatly keep this from happening to anyone again. Boycott that operation right out of here. Capt Ken

We dealt with Lucas this year not sure from which company Thomas may know. Very fair and honest with good prices. Our last fish caught Jan. 14 did get 25.07 per pound and was a smaller fish at 230 core.

I had no idea about that stuff over on the west coast.

Mark, we sold some to Corey and Lucas and were impressed with them. Stand up guys. They seem to really take care of their fishermen. I have traditionally sold to Kim over at homers and have always been taken care of over there. We also had George come over and pick up one at portside this year and that fish did well too. You were on some kind of a tear this year too. I hope 08 goes as well for you as 07 because you were on a roll.

Glenn, I guess we didnt grow up in the same place. I aint trying to be a gentleman here, I am trying to figure out what the hell is going on. I have a kid at home and one on the way and that kind of money makes a difference to me right now. I realize I may not be the gentleman your are, but when I get ripped off I wanna know whats up. I tried to keep it private but after being lied to for over a month and now completely ignored altogether for over a week I dont want someone else getting ripped off and I would like some kind of answers.
