The interesting thing to me is how big pelagic fish (and also GT etc) are often reported as investigating or coming up to a spear fisherman in the water, not to mention the use of devices like flashers to bring them closer. Obviously they don't see such a clumsy creature as a human in the water as a threat - and they probably aren't aware that the long stick that the human is holding can spring out and nail them at some distance. It doesn't happen that way all the time of course, but I can see that when it does the shot would be reasonably straightforward.
Spear fishermen do very well indeed on wahoos in Madeira. In fact I have a hunch that their catch per hour spent targeting them may well be a lot higher than the average sport boat.

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
People kill fish, happens every day. I dont judge anyone unless its something totally rediculous. This certainly doesnt factor into that equation.
I say its his right to take that fish anyway he wants as long as its within the regulations. I think its pretty bad ass to go down there and take that shot knowing the velocity and power that fish has. To each there own. Congrats on accomplishing his goal
