Caught our first bluefin of the season yesterday (Saturday). Trolled the Hambone in the morning, the tuna took a stretch 30. There are bluefish on the Hambone but not enough to ruin tuna fishing efforts. Also observed another boat catch a small mako. Once our tuna tag was filled we headed off into the deep for golden tiles. Everyone onboard caught a 30lb class fish. More importantly then catching fish was running through two schools of breaking bluefin on the way back in. They were located on the Sausages between 31 & 33 miles off the beach. I had 63.8 water on the Sausages, this is not too cold for bluefin. For those of you who decide to target them instead of bluefish, you will probably be rewarded. Think deep for at least one bait, preferrably two. Good Luck! John Unkart - Author of Offshore Pursuit
