    Gulf seas

Whoever says the gulf is just as rough as the NC coast, hasn't ever been here. I think we have one, maybe 2, days a year that are this pretty.

I'm going to retire to the gulf coast somewhere, so I can fish until I'm old. I'll just run to WVa when the hurricanes come.

YES IT IS PRETTY CALM DOWN HERE. THAT FORECAST YOU PUT UP LOOKS LOKE THE REST OF OUR MONTH, AND FOR THAT MATTER OUR WHOLE SUMMER. THE REST OF THE WEEK HERE IS 5MPH WINDS OUT OF THE SOUTH, AND 1 FOOT OR LESS AND SMOOTH ON THE WAVES. OUR 60 MILE BOUY IS READING .67-.89 OF A foot.

    Jim,

For us weekend fishermen 3 ft here in NC is a good day. I think the only time i see one ft or less is on Monday or Tuesday. I remember a charter capt in Guatamela apologizing because of the 1 to 2 ft seas. When he found out we were from NC he said water too rough. He had fished Pirates cove tourny with 4 footers. He said he did not like it in NC because it was so rough.

Every time I've been down there it has been smooth as a glass of water. You could run all over the gulf in a jon boat. Here in MD it's about the same as NC.

yea we have the triple rig which is about twenty miles south of pasagoula, on a very good day i have seen bass boats tied up to that rig. even in the smaller boats you can run full throttle from rig to rig, with no problem.

Ohh, there is no doubt any body of water can be big at times. My point is that our nicest water is still not as nice as they get during the summer.

I would agree...the bottom contour is a lot different...thus, so are the wave formations...However, when its rough (Atlantic vs. Gulf), tackling 10 ft. seas in the Gulf is a lot different than that of the Atlantic...just different types of waves/formation.

I lived in St. Pete/Tampa for a couple of yrs...You can virtually catch Snook, Tarpon, Trout and Red fish from any shore line, bridge, inlet or a short wading distance to a flat...20-80 miles for bottom fishing (Grouper/Snapper)...give or take 80 miles+ for Marlin,Tuna, Wahoo, Swords...some nice bottom contour out there...the area is called the Steps...The fishing way offshore can be stellar...many don't venture that far offshore...virtually untouched...Those who do are rewarded kindly...solid big fish.

The Gulf coast of Fla. is a nice place to retire...good fishing...slow way of life and relatively cheap.

and I have been to my share of different places. A 10 foot sea in Port Aransas, Tx in March is about as nasty as a 10 foot sea gets. It's like a shallow bathtub.
