Gulf of Mexico - the final countdown ?

Here's a link to something I found over at the OIL DRUM. Makes for happy bedtime reading. The survivalists amongst us will be a-quiver with gun grease and MRE's.

If you don't think too much about the article, you can pretend Christmas this year will be almost normal.

You know... I read this and have been deep in thought about this mess for a long time. Hell I even got attacked for reporting reports of tar balls... Millions of theories.

Then I look deeper in the past. The year I think was 1979. We had damn near the same situation at nearly the same scope with a well shallower and closer to shore. Barely a mention of it in the news but the goo flowed heavy and eventually went away with hardly a second look.
As a kid I walked the beaches be it inJersey or Florida and seldom did I come home where my mother wasn't bitchin about me having tar on my feet.
Oil leaks natural not only in the gulf but even the northeast has low grade petroleum leaking from not too far down. Hell oil was first discovered in this country flowing in the trout streams of Pennsylvania.
I think about it deeper. A single volcano belches out more pollutants in a single day than man has produced in our short history here on this planet. You know? This planet does a pretty good job fixing itself and moving on. For us to sit here feeling sorry for our actions screwing it up in fact is off base. Its arrogant to think we as a pimple on the ass of this elephant sized rock we sit on...
Ugly yes but we'll get through it and the earth will continue to spin long after our species is gone...

YES.....the earth will still spin and yes I agree nature will eventually clean the mess up on its own. But how many lifetimes will it take if the well continues to flow?

What becomes of the entire Gulf economy. And Im not just talking about Fisherman. The PEOPLE! What of the hotels, stores, businesses, everything? If this worst case scenario proves to be true. This monster could destroy the entire ecosystem of the Gulf. What then, do people just move out? Millions of people?

At the rate it continues to flow and god forbid it increaseing from a complete catastrophic blowout, we will see it sooner than later here on the east coast.

Where is the uproar? The gulf stream will bring it to us. Its coming boys! Like a freight train! This is a GULF PROBLEM now but I fear it will be a EAST COAST PROBLEM soon.

What is the current in the stream? 2-7 knots? When it makes the turn around the Keyes, LOOK OUT BOYS!! Here it comes! Then its our problem!

Forget fighting for your right to fish in Washington. This could finish it for us. If youre like me and are concerned of the ramifications of what this could mean for us, you better be callin your Senators and Representatives to light a fire under this goverments ass to intervene and get this monster under control with any and all means available.

Itll be too late when it turns the corner in the keyes.

We have allowed the environmentalist to have too much control and let them push these rigs too far offshore. A rig should not be drilled that deep that we can not make repairs.

Trace Adkins a country singer and former oil rig worker spoke at my sons graduation yesterday a rig 200 ft deep they could drill safely and make repairs he said and they cant stop the leak it will flow he said until it blows its self out but they wont tell us that. The Gov could stop this thing with explosives in a few hours but then rights to a well are then gone. When the relief wells are drilled then you will see just that happen. But then there are 2 wells there, and rights are gained not lost. They think we are stupid and cant see past there bull. It all comes down to the dollar BP needs to be boycotted and pushed out of this country.
