Grouper Jigging MHC
Last weekend I turned 40. Don't get to go fishing like I used to, so I try to make the most of it when I do. I sold my boat last year, and don't have the fishing connections like I used to. I still enjoy going on the head boats, so I booked a day for August 7th on the Continental Shelf out of Morehead City.
I had sold a boat to Tim Barefoot from Barefootfishing.net and gave him a call. I had seen his jigs and wanted to give them a try. Called him up, ordered some jigs and had them on my doorstep the next day. Booked my spot on the Continental Shelf and gave it a go.
I want to give Captain Dave Tilley of the Continental Shelf all the credit he deserves for putting us on the fish! We had a full boat and everybody left with stringers full of B-liners, grunts, bass, AJ's, and Mahi's! Great crew and great captain and a first class operation. Thank you Captain Dave for a great day and getting me pictures of my fish.
Unfortunately, the grouper weren't biting the best, but that is where Tim Barefoot's decoy jigs come in. Bottom line, there were 80, yes 80, head on the boat that day. Exactly 2 grouper were caught out of 80 people fishing and I caught BOTH of them on Barefoot Decoy Jigs! These jigs work! From now on, I will always have them when I go bottom fishing.
The slob red in the picture weighed 25.5 pounds and is the second biggest grouper I've ever caught. The only bigger grouper I've ever caught I caught over 20 years ago when I was commercial fishing.
