    greetings from the South Pacific

Long-time lurker but first time poster from out here in Guam. I just wanted to say hello and that I think you guys are a first-class bunch of fishermen and people. Its refreshing to find a site with seemingly real people and none of the trolls or hecklers you see on so many sites sirring up trouble. I look forward to contributing where I can and to learning from the pros here. Happy New Year to everyone.

    Hafa Adai John,

I'm not positive but I think you may be the first ambassador for Sportfishermen.com on Guam. Please keep us posted on life, fishing and more. The closest I've fished is Oahu but hopefully I'll get out there in the years to come. And since your 15 hours ahead of us, you may be the first on the board to hit 2006. Happy New Year to you as well.

    Thumbs up

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas.

Capt. Chris, out here its mainly the standard fare bluewater species such as Mahi, Wahoo, Blue Marlin, and Bonita and YF Tuna. Although we're out in the middle of the "big pond", we suffer a bit from over-fishing in this region in general and as such, we don't typically bring in the huge fish like other locations. You can still land 300+lb blues but it seems the normal catch is more like 100-200 pounders. Our sizes for Mahi, Wahoo, and Tuna are also typically much smaller than Hawaii or other island locations.

Sterling, that's cool that you know some of the local lingo from the Marianas. This is a great place with wonderful people but a damn long way from the "lower 48". I am trying to get a few other local fishermen on here so hopefully, this will prod them into posting.

Glad to be a part of the Sportfishermen Team
