    Great... Twice...

Continued my sharkathon... One rat mako a couple blues and a couple duskies for four days work wasn't setting well and I hoped to improve on things. I joined Sledge Joe, Jawz Jimmy, Bruce and Mike for a run on Joes Contender...
With a quick boat and good seas we went on the deluxe tour of the sharkin grounds of SoJerDel... Starting at 19 fathom lump we began the drift in 154 feet then slid over the bump and over more structure to the south all the way to Masseys...
A half hour in Jawz barked "Holy Shit!"
We turned to see 25 feet or more of meat passing the transom... First thought was great white then Basking came clear...
We only picked a blue in the greenish too warm water so we slid off to the Trunk...There the water was better but action was slow. We set in two different areas of the trunk with no action so we let her drift inside toward other structure.
Late in the day finally we had a bite... The whole blue bait closer to the boat was picked up. I let it eat and went for the bow up. I came tight and this fish hit the afterburners! ...A half spool emptied in a blink and we got to fighting. We gained most of the line back and a second and third blistering run were capped by a explosion on the surface but species id couldn't be made. I'm thinking ggod mako judging by the speed. A fourth hot run against the 20lbs of draq followed before the hooks just plain pulled...
We reset and a bluefish found us... Shortlyt after that here came a pair of triggers... Then a big sunfish gave us an inspection... Then the next visitor took our breath away... 12-14' of shadow showed up. No basking this time... It was charcaradon himself... The great white! ... We all got a good look as it did a pass through the slick, ignoring our offerings...
We had a blind run off whos teeth looked to be a small mako and as I set it back out here came jaws again!!! This time closer for a longer drive by... Absolutely gorgeous critter she was... So not much to show for our day other than great company and great memories of great whites and a great fight...

Deep, what a great day. Fish or no fish. We had 2 big sharks during the SJ at the Trunk (lost both). Fished there both days. One was a Thresher, but the other we never saw. We also saw a fin the 3ft wide and 3ft high swim by the boat at about 2-3knots. We never ID'd it, but I am thinking Basking shark. Although maybe it was Jaws himself. I would love to see a White up close.

I tried for some shots against the sun on the second pass I need to see if they turned out. The camera is burried in my shark kit but I'll dig it out when the rain lets up. I have seen a few over recent years but at a distance... That was the first I have seen close in a very long time. The basking was the first I have seen in even longer time.
Fishing was slow but the adventure part was there in tact and cool as it comes...
