I've had reasonable success on whitey with lures BUT having never fished in competition with serious dead bait trollers I think naturals would probably have the edge in waters where the fish are seeing a lot of pressure. Baits also have the advantage that the hookup is normally more solid than lures, but you need a bit more skill to execute the hookup (unless you're fishing with automatic dropback). Lures have the advantage that they won't break apart after a missed shot, plus of course you cover more ground. The main problem most folks seem to have with lures on whitey is getting them to stick. I think whitey is aggressive enough to go after lures, heck they will take potshots at big blue marlin lures at times, but the story could be different in heavily fished waters.

    Patudo,
I couldnt agree more. I believe it is important to "spoon feed" a fish when you are fishing with bait. When fishing with lures you want to take the lure away and try to instigate the more aggresive bite, hopfully your hook will find a home in the corner. Great post man.

I don't run knock offs, if thats what it is.

The Micro Sprocket was designed to catch juvy blacks on bait balls in Oz.

The ides was to have smaller lures to pull over the allready located baitballs. Lighter line and more fun for baby under 150 # on 15kg.

haven't heard from anyone that has much luck with whitey on lures,,,,and I can think of better tuna and mahi producers.

They will catch fish, but I could do without um.

If it's a softease head the skirt goes on easiest with a sharpened chopstick and a couple drops of glue.

If it's resin tie um up island style

    Back to my coconut palm

hi i no its an old thread but i have only joined up.
the heads mentioned are not knockoff's of the micro sprocket.
they look very similar. but these lures are thicker in the body
and have a deeper face cut into them .if they were the same as the sprocket series from pakula i'am sure peter pakula would of done something by now about it as all pakula lures
are protected by patent's.also the mentioned lures do not keep a low profile they have been operating for near on 30yrs...futher more the micro sprocket is only a six inch lure..
then it is just called a sprocket.
the lures mentioned range in size from 5inch up to 23inch..
sorry i dont want to offend anyone here but there the facts...
    cheers.
