FYI and everyone else No Boat builder is Immune to these economic times. I dont care how good a product they make! boats are a recreation and nothing more. And they are and will continue to suffer until we stop supporting the global economy at our expense at home!

Grayd White is one of the few small boat builders open presently, they have some furloughs and lay offs going on and are working a lower number of hours, I am sure most boat builders will base decisions to stay open after sales at the Miami show since that will be a good way to see how sales will be for the season/year. It is possible they will close their doors for a period of time...if they stay open and have no sales they loose money, closing is smart if you are forced into that due to slow sales. Proline has had their doors shut for a while, I have a friend who works for them. They were supposed to bring back employees jan 1 and did not, they are waiting to see how the boat show goes for any other decisions. Most builders are in the same situation...either closed already or fighting to stay open to get to the boat show and then based on sales decide their next move.

the only builders who are typically not effected are small builders who build custom boats and only sell 1-10 boats a year, they cater to a different clientel to begin with who seek this type of boat, and it is a lot easier to find a small number of buyers for custom boats then larger numbers that a production builder needs. Even large boat builders are hurting and have shut down for periods of time.
