The plan was to stop inshore for a BFT and then run off to the edge. We got to the Tea Cup [74 10 x 38 20 ] about 6AM. Trolled for about 20 minutes normal spread [not wwwwb] and the right middle rigger goes down hard.ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ line is leaving the reel at an unbelievable rate. Turn the boat into the fish while the guys finish clearing the lines. Fish finally settles down after taking some 400 to 500 yards. One hour and ten minutes latter, we shink two gaffs, 67 inch fish in the boat. We were using 8/0 circle hook, 130 lb mono leader, 15 lbs of drag and a shamono 50 tld. Time for plan B. We run to the Baltimore and set up at 50 fathoms on the west side of the tip with a normal 7 rod spread and a dredge with a naked close behind. At the 100 line the first white comes calling, comes right in behind the dredge and takes the naked. 10 minutes latter we get the first release. We worked the 100 line around the tip to the east side when whitey nimber two pays a visit. He beats the crap out of our teaser, slashes at the middle rigger, and finally comes tight on the right long. Fithteen minutes latter we get the second release. The rest of the day was small dophin bites.
Gotta love it when a plan comes together.
