    Post Got the Blues!?

Well Today, I looked at the weather, said it was going to be decent, 1 foot or less, about 60 degrees, so I brought all my foul weather gear. Show up at the docks at 5:40 so I can prep the boat, customers are already there, and drinking heavily. I have had these people out before, a bunch of teachers, who drink heavily. Thought to myself that it was going to be a long day which it was.

After leaving dock the temperature dropped another 10 degrees, so I put all my foul weather gear on, I couldnt move my fingers ha ha ha. So we headed out to our west grounds, where we got some huge ass blue fish, 4 or 5 of them were over 25lbs After only catching 2 keeper stripers we made a move and decided to head over to our east grounds, bad move

My Captain has a triple hernia, winds picked up and so did the seas. Needless to say the 1960, 41 hatteras was getting bounced around quite a bit. So we went to drift fishing, which we caught more blue fish, and these guys wanted all the blue fish.

At the end of the day we had 50 BLUE FISH!!!!! , a big pain in the royal ass to filet all those suckers! It took me and another guy 40 minutes to fillet all the fish. We filled up 5 bags full of just blue fish!!

Needless to say that the drunk teachers left the boat stumbling and headed off to a local pub, and from there they would be headed back home an hour and half away!!! That and there car stinking of 100 blue fish fillets

You could have been down here, we had 30 knot winds, nobody could sail today.

Thankfully we got right into dock as those 30 knot winds showed up.

You sure "4 or 5 were over 25 pounds"??? I've been fishing some 40 years, 30 professionally, I've never seen a 25 lb blue. We get 16-18 pound fish, maybe a 20lb fish with a finger on the scale . No 25's, have any photos with a scale?

I know what you mean, my boss has been fishing 34 years professionally and has never seen a blue this big, I unfortunately don't have a picture and I doubt the customers have any. I must say I have caught one that was 20lbs 2 years ago and I havent seen anything close to that until this past trip when we topped that. It was truly amazing!

I know what you mean Capt. Rich. I too questioned the weight in that report since in my 45 years have never caught or seen a blue over the 22 pound mark. I did do a search though and found that they do grow to upwards of 40 pounds. That's why I didn't say anything.

The 2007 IGFA all tackle record is 31 lb 12 oz --North Carolina 1972, (my 2008 book is on the boat). I've heard of a 30 lb fish caught in Ghana, but to catch "4 or 5" 25 lbers in one day, "wait till the taxidermy man gonna see what I'm gonna bring him!" Maybe if GitchSome will knock off a couple of pounds, I'll blow out the light on that lamp I lost 15 years ago!
