"There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot." --STEVEN WRIGHT
Thats exactly what they are doing now, they are called booms. I just can't see this being a very efficient method to solve an oil spill of this scale. Yes this would work on small plumes but it would just take to long to soak up large plumes hundreds and possible thousands of feet deep and many miles wide. Yes this could be done but the difficulty to keep a boom at this depth would be extreme, and with so much scope out the it would be terrible difficult to do this accurately. Not to mention that these booms are doing just as much harm to marine life as the oil is.
Frank anything can work, but this needs to be done efficiently. No point in wasting time and money if it could be done more efficiently.
Caleb Given enough time the deeper plumes will eventually break down naturally and surface, but how much time and how much damage it is doing down there is anyone's guess
