Goliath Grouper and my shirt at the Aquarium

I forgot to post this but better late than never.

I took a trip to Dubai in May and went to the Atlantis hotel aquarium. Nice Whale Shark there and various other species of interest. When we went by the Goliath Grouper tank, there were two huge (approx 400lbs+) specimens in there along with some smaller ones. Well both of these big Groupers kept following me along the window. If I went right, they followed. If I went left, same thing. There were maybe four or five other people standing there but the Groupers were interested in me with their noses pressed up against the window. After a while others started to notice and then someone pointed out that I was the only one wearing a bright yellow shirt. Sure enough that seemed to be what it was.

Anyway, I don't know at what depth the color spectrum disappears but for those of you that target those monsters maybe bright yellow (or is it Chartreuse in fisherman speak?) lure is the way to go.

I've got pictures somewhere and will post them later.

Fun story Twotems. I don't think that color was the reason why the big goobers were checking you out. I believe that they knew of your fish slayin' adventures and were interested in revenge! They wanted to eat you!

BTW what happened to your cool avatar?

    **EDIT**
I'm wrong again...what was the old avatar?
The old avatar was a pic of a guy cruising along on an upturned table with a small outboard attached to it. Lost with my old computer.

The new one is a potential Grander that was sharked after about 5 hours off Kenya I think.

Hard to speak with my foot in my mouth. Yea, I remember that one, the guys out here use it for their annual fishing tourney flyer. The new one is sweet...there's a Youtube vid out there, Cains I think where the same thing happened, a freaking HUGE Black got tore up...only thing left was bill and eyeballs.

I had the same thing happen at the Giant Sea Bass Tank at the Scripps Aquarium - There are 2 600 Lbers in there - I think I looked like a big morsel...

    Ok, here are the pics.

The first is me and Mr. Grouper sizeing me up. The second is me taking a pic of my son and the Grouper looking like it wants to eat him whereas it's really still eyeing me. The third is after Mr. Grouper followed me to the other side of the tank and we're having a little chat.

That picture got me thinking about what happened to me in Okinawa in 1989 while diving. We would sometimes carry cans of "Easy Cheese" with us and the fish loved it...usually real small fish. But one day I remember seeing a fish just like that, maybe slightly smaller, come right up and eat the cheese as it sprayed/flowed out of the can...scared the chit out of me. Something about diving with something that is more than twice your size made me nervous. Sorry to "jack" your thread...the pic's look cool and he was definatly interested in you!

Groupers are funny critters. When they get very large they are typically the boss of their own little patch of bottom. Getting close to you can mean one of only two things: they are interested in you as food or (heaven help you) they are interested in you as a "mate". I think I'd rather be consumed

I like the new avatar Twotems.
